The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Gen. 3:9-15.20, Eph. 1:3-6.11-12, Lk. 1:26-38. The belief in the Immaculate Conception of Mary is belief in the providence of God, who provides for the future, who prepares His children for their assigned task in life even before they are born. God already anoints His children in the womb and appoints them as prophets. Jeremiah was told: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” It was supremely fitting that the woman who brought our Saviour into the world should be totally free from sin. The God who foresees and equips us with all the natural and supernatural qualities we need to play our assigned role in the history of human salvation. Today’s readings present us with two women, their actions and the consequences of their actions. We have a contrast between Eve and Mary, both are key to the message of salvation, but from opposite perspectives. In today's first reading, as we explore the story of the fall from grace in Garden of Eden, we see some interesting events taking place. God graced Adam and Eve with a beautiful place to live, with no problems, plenty of food – a true paradise. As we admire our Blessed Lady, God’s most favoured one, the one who is “Full of grace” as today's Gospel recorded. In the Solemnity of the Immaculate conception of Mary, we thank God for His love and mercy which embraces us right from the moment of our conception. Everything we have and are, are gift from God, everything good in us is by God’s grace. For we, children of God, are also favoured and heirs of God’s grace. On this day, Mary inspires us as the most favoured one, the mother of our Saviour, who enjoys the fullness of the grace of God to always respond positively to God. May Christ, who made Virgin Mary the sanctuary of His presence and Temple of the Spirit, make us bearers of His Spirit, in mind, heart and body! Amen!! Remain safe and have a terrific day!!!
