Thank you Father for revealing the secret of the Kingdom to mere children

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Ish 11:1-10, Lk. 10:21-24. Today's first reading may sound like an innocent fairy-tale, but embedded in it is a tragic truth. The stump of Jesse refers to the mighty dynasty of king David that has been cut down like a tree. Nothing remains but a dry stump and some hidden roots. The spirit of the Lord will rest upon the stump and the roots of Jesse and the people of God will bloom again. This leads to the almost fairy-tale vision of reversal of fortune of the Messianic age. The dream of universal peace and gentle trust is so wonderful that not even our fairy-tales adequately measure up to it. Surely faith dreams in these creative ways, for Jesus rejoices in the Holy Spirit and says: “I offer you praise, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because what you have hidden from the learned and the clever you have revealed to mere children.”

At the depth of our existence is a mystery which no one knows except Jesus and the Heavenly Father and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal it. This mystery is the divinity that He shares with us as recorded in today's Gospel. He became a child and laid aside His divinity in order to communicate God to us. Ultimately He was, as it were, stripped of His humanity on the cross of death to reveal the fullness of love. This thought may help in times like ours, threatened by Corona virus and when our beloved Church seems so diminished and ignored. In Christ, as we enter into the season of Advent and begin this month of December, we are called to take a step back from our usual busy schedules and think of how we can make best use of this season of Advent. The time of Advent is a time for reconciliation with God, a time for redirection and reorientation of our lives. As we enter into this time of Advent, we are called to find more time for God and prepare ourselves for His coming.

May the Lord throw down the walls of hatred between nations, clear the way for those who work for peace and help us to overcome our pride! Amen!! Be safe, Peace be with you!!!
