The opportune time is the moment of grace to effect change

The opportune time is the moment of grace to effect change

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Eph. 4:1-6, Lk. 12:54-59. God continues to communicate His mind to the people through various happenings, changes, reactions, responses and through the pulse of everything around us. In today's Gospel, Jesus refers to the contemplation of nature as way to interpret events of nature and be ready for the consequence nature brings. In the same way, contemplation of God and His word will enable us to interpret the mind of God for our times and prepare ourselves. Signs of the times are important indicators to take right decisions and effective precautions. Contemporary science is of much help to anticipate and interpret signs of nature and even of the universe. The skill to analyse the signs of the Spirit and soul will enable us change dangerous course and avert calamities. The image of going with the accuser to the magistrate made by Jesus means that we need to act in time, reflect the urgency to reconcile with God and with one another. In spite of internal and external conflicts, this time can be a "Kairos" for us, individually and as a community to seize this opportune moment to retrace our steps. The "Kairos" is moment of grace, different from the Greeks "Chronos" which is a chronological time, but "Kairos" is a very special moment with life-changing implications. We and our leaders need to interpret the present time and act for we can no longer get away with our misgivings. Observing the natural virtues of prudence and courage, we must do our best to practice and share the Spirit of Jesus Christ and do things well. The "Kairos" must be seized promptly, in order to do the will of God. The stakes are high and not to decide is itself a negative decision. The humble recognition of the need for the mercy of God in our lives can be a sign of evaluating ourselves objectively. Paul rightly interpreted the signs of wretchedness within him and the nature of conflict he encountered within, in today's first reading. Therefore, he was able to turn to Jesus as the one who could rescue him. We need to constantly introspect into our life and draw lessons for life in time before it is late. May the Lord bless us with the sight to see how God is present to us, especially in and through those whom we meet in the cause of our day! Amen!! Remain safe and have a pleasant day!!!
