Make God your only refuge and shield - Bishop Odetoyinbo tells Catholics

The Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo has said that true and sincere Catholics will only make God their shield, guide and refuge in their earthly journey, no matter the circumstances they may encounter in life.

The Bishop, who stated this in his homily at Catholic Church of Assumption, Oko Baale, while administering the Sacrament of Confirmation on 80 faithful of the Parish.

The Bishop, who also laid foundation of the Parish Grotto, lamented that some people are looking for 'what is not lost' to acquire extra powers while positing that only the power of God can shield and protect them from harms and danger.

He said, "God is our refuge from generation to generation, therefore, you have to allow Him in your life, business, marriage and home. Allow God in your plan, invite Him, call His name, cry unto Him at all times. He will answer you and grant your requests.

"No matter your condition and circumstances, don't forget God. Whatever you do in the Church, it is to the glory of God

Bishop Odetoyinbo warned the faithful against giving God command whenever they make requests or doubting in His power to grant their request, but you must have absolute trust in Him.

"Always approach Him with absolute trust and confidence and tell Him the situation of your life, family and business in humility, simplicity, total surrender. He will answer and grant your request.

Analyzing the importance of Sacrament Confirmation, Bishop Odetoyinbo said, through the sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist, all Catholics have surrendered themselves to God, stressing that the Sacrament of Confirmation rounded up the initiation of the faithful as Catholics and Christians.

"If you truly believe in God, you will give Him chance in your life to be your shield, refuge and guard.

He reminded the newly confirmed faithful that their is no limit to what they can do for God and His Church, saying "you are not too young to serve God. You must serve Him among your friends, serve Him in your school, studies, among your family members, and in the Church".

"With this sacrament, you are now full strong perfect Christians, and soldiers of Christ, you should be ready to defend Christ and His Church anytime and anywhere, profess His love, mercy and compassion to all people.
