CKC Afobaje: Bishop Odetoyinbo confirms 130 faithful, blesses Chapel, Grotto
No fewer than 130 parishioners of Christ the King Catholic Church, Afobaje, in St. Peter, Ota Deanery, recently received the Sacrament of Confirmation by the Diocesan Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo. The ceremony after mass also featured the blessing of the Parish Chapel and Grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In his homily, that focused on the last two gifts of the Holy Spirit; 'piety and fear of God', Bishop Odetoyinbo charged the faithful to make the two gifts their watchword, for them to be able to worship God in truth and holiness.
While wondering that many people today do not have regards for God anymore because of worldly things, he stressed that the fear of God must reflect in everything they do.
"As Christians and followers of Jesus Christ, God must reflect in all your actions and activities, you must revere God, love Him, serve Him, adore Him and be devoted to Him at all times.
"Regardless of your status or position in the Church, everyone belongs to God. Your disposition, actions, attitudes and appearance in the Church, show how you fear and love God. Nobody can deceive God".
He cautioned the faithful to avoid anything that may distract them from worshipping God in truth and in faith, adding that they should always acknowledge the presence of God in their neighbours, especially the downtrodden.
He urged the people of God to make their membership of their societies and organizations, as well as their participation in Church activities draw them closer to God, for them to make heaven, which is the ultimate for all Christians.
The local ordinary of Abeokuta Diocese charged the newly confirmed faithful to prepare to follow and worship God in totality, devote their entire lives to Him, saying that this is the only condition that will guarantee them heaven.
"The Church has prepared different avenues for the faithful to know God, love Him, worship Him, revere
Him, through the priests, Mass, homilies, adoration, Church organizations/societies and other activities.
