New Mass Centre created at Iwoye-Ota

On March 16, 2025, a significant milestone was achieved with the celebration of the inaugural Mass at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Iwoye-Ota. The Mass was presided over by Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Joseph Adegboyega Oriyomi, the Parish Priest of the Church of Assumption, Oko Bale Ota. Fifty-one parishioners attended this historic service, marking the beginning of the Church's mission in the community.

The establishment of a Catholic presence in Iwoye has been a pursuit spanning four years. Fr. Oriyomi recounted the concerted efforts undertaken to bring this vision to fruition. He expressed gratitude to the Bricklayer Association of Ado Odo Ota Local Government for generously providing their facilities for the initial gatherings. He also mentioned that future Masses would continue at the venue or possibly relocate to St. Anthony School, located on the same street.

The Sunday Mass is currently scheduled for 10:30 am, with plans to adjust the timing as the congregation grows and settles. Fr. Oriyomi emphasized the importance of winning souls for God, stating that regardless of the church's physical location, the ultimate goal is spiritual growth and community building. He highlighted the roles of Missionary Priests in bringing people to God and Diocesan Priests in bringing Jesus to the people, underscoring the collaborative efforts in nurturing the faith.

Special acknowledgments were made to the individuals that played pivotal roles in the Church's establishment. Mr. Jacob Oba, who led the search for a suitable worship centre, and Mr. Michael Omonijo, who initiated the quest for a Mass centre four years ago, were commended for their dedication. Additionally, Mr. and Mrs. Dada, Mr. and Mrs. Grace Sobola, Cynthia, and many others were recognized for their sacrifices and contributions towards the birth of the new church.

This inaugural Mass not only signifies the physical establishment of a place of worship but also represents the spiritual unity and commitment of the Iwoye community. The Church's mission aligns with the broader goals of evangelization and community building within the Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta.

The journey of Our Lady of Holy Rosary Catholic Church is a testament to the faith and perseverance of its members, and it stands as a beacon of hope and spiritual nourishment for the people of Iwoye, Ota.
