History was on Saturday, 22nd of February 2025, made as the oldest Catholic Church in Abeokuta metropolis, St. John Catholic Church, Lafenwa, was dedicated by the Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta, Most Rev Dr. Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo. 

 

The dedication of the Church, which was the fourth to be done in Sts. Joachim and Anne, Ibara Deanery, will remain memorable in the minds of parishioners who came out enmasse, and other well wishers, among whom were over 30 priests and religious in attendance.

 

Also, Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Michael Adedotun Gbadebo, Okunkenu iv and Olu of Siun, Oba Lawrence Adisa Odeyinka, amongst other dignitaries. 

 

In his homily, Bishop Odetoyinbo commended the sacrifices the Dean and Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Eric Olatunji and the Catholic community of Lafenwa have put in place in ensuring that the Church was dedicated for the Catholic liturgical celebration.

adding that what the Lord requires of the them is for them to worship Him in truth and love their fellow humans.
