St Thomas Catholic Church Papa celebrates one year anniversary as a parish

The Priest and entire Catholic community in Papa recently rolled out drums in celebration of the first anniversary of the creation of Papa as parish by the Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Kayode Odetoyinbo.

The week-long anniversary programme commenced with house-to-house evangelization led by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Anthony Umana and his parishioners  from the main parish and its outstation; Catholic Church of Ascension, Magada.

The anniversary opening Mass was celebrated on the 13th September, 2017 which was followed with a talk with the theme: "Family the bed rock of the church" which was anchored by the Parish Family and Human life unit.

Speakers at the lecture, Catechist Augustine Oyafemi and Mr. Noble Anyanwu reminded all that family is an essential building block of a society, where family members look and care for one another and that the love, care and support given in our immediate and extended families, that is what is expected to be extended to one another in the church to live up to our name as Christ’s ambassadors.

There was a health talk on stress management by Mrs. Janet Jacobson. She noted that stress management was about taking charge of our lifestyle, emotions, thoughts, and ways problems can be dealt with.

A self-help technique was shared in identifying the sources of stress in one's life, replacing unhealthy coping strategies with healthy ones.

She advised everybody to avoid unnecessary stress by learning to say no, knowing their limits and sticking to them, alter the situation by expressing your feelings instead of bottling them,
accept the things you cannot change.

“Do not try to control the uncontrollable, look for the upside and learn to forgive at all times, making out time for fun and relaxation”.

There was a group wedding with 16 ratifying their marriages in the church.

The anniversary thanksgiving Mass witnessed enthronement of the Bible which was a reminder to the faithful that the Bible is not a book to be kept on the shelf but to be practiced, read and done by the faithful.
