The Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo has called for attitudinal change, reorientation, and spirit of patriotism on the part of all Nigerians, irrespective of their status, religion or ethnic background.
According to Bishop Odetoyinbo, who made the call at the Church dedication of Christ the King Catholic Church, Agbara, “the much said "Nigeria Project" requires prayer, sacrifice, perseverance, obedience, equity, justice, good neighborliness, and patriotism from all Nigerians.
The Bishop equally urged the political class to be above board and avoid any act of omission or commission that can undermine the nation"s fast growing democracy, saying that all citizens should be patriotic and remain committed to the cause of nation building.
He said, the present insecurity and economic downturn in the country should prompt all Nigerians to pray for the country and surrender everything to God.
"As Nigerians, we should endeavour to pray for this country at all times. Let politicians, religious leaders, and the entire citizens surrender their lives to God".
Speaking on the dedication, Bishop Odetotyinbo said that the rite of Church dedication has profound significance and impact both for the Church as a whole and for the individual members, stressing that it is another affirmation of Jesus’ presence among his people and an expression of the unity of Christ body.
He added that the dedication of a church is a sublime experience wherein the faithful rededicate their lives to the love and service of God in perfect submission to the will God. It is an expression of our decision to be vessels of love and instruments of salvation to others”.
He reminded the congregation that after the dedication of the Church, “no other form of worship, apart from the Catholic worship is allowed in the Church”.
He charged them to spend the resources for God, stressing that they should rededicate themselves; their entire life, hope, love and trust to God for the salvation of their souls, urging them to continue to worship God with their wealth and riches.
The relic of Saint Pio was deposited at the Church’s altar accompanied with anointing and invocation of the saints.
