Encomiums as Bishop Odetoyinbo marked his 31st Priestly Anniversary

The Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo has renewed his commitment to continue to work for the spiritual and physical growth of the diocese.

Bishop Odetoyinbo, who made the commitment in a remark at a special reception organized by Priests and parishioners of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Cathedral, Itesi, Abeokuta in his honour to mark his 31st Priestly anniversary. Also in attendance were the priests and religious of Ibara and Itesi Deaneries.

Bishop Odetoyinbo, who was full of praise and thanksgiving to God for His grace and kindness in his life and vocation both as a priest and a Bishop, said that God has been his pillar and source of his strength.

He said, “I thank God for His grace to become a priest. If you begin your life with God, you will achieve much. As a priest for 31 years, I had gone through ‘thick and thin’, but I give God the glory for sustaining me. God has been with me. I want to thank my parents for the seed of faith they planted in me and as well nurtured it”.

Speaking on his sojourn as the Bishop of Abeokuta in the last six years, Bishop Odetoyinbo attributed all the success recorded to God.

He said, “the diocese was able to complete Divine Pastoral Centre within two years, the Cathedral Church building was also a miracle. What had happened in Abeokuta in the last six years are testimonies that God abides with the diocese. I want to thank all the priests, religious and lay faithful of Abeokuta Diocese for their support and cooperation in the last six years. I want to thank them for accepting me and my vision in moving the diocese forward”.

In their goodwill messages, Very Rev. Fr. Raymond Adebowale, the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Michael Adedotun Gbadebo, the Diocesan Laity President, Mr. Vincent Akintola, Prof. Nworgu, Prof. Isaac Eronmosele and his wife, Prof. Mrs. Yemisi Eronmosele, the Cathedral Laity President, Aare Sola Coker, all commended the Bishop for his dedication, commitment and zeal to move the diocese to the next level spiritually and physically.

They equally commended him for the successful hosting of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria in 2019, saying the blessing brought by the conference still abides in the diocese and its faithful.

He said, since the arrival of Bishop Odetoyinbo six years ago, the diocese has been progressing, describing him as a “good manager’.

Prof. Mrs. Eronmosele commended the Bishop for putting into consideration the spiritual wellbeing of elderly people whom COVID 19 protocols would have denied the opportunity of attending Masses.

She appealed to the Bishop to set machinery in motion towards establishing a university in the diocese.
