Live evangelistic lives, Bishop Odetoyinbo charges faithful as he confirms 123 at Igbogila

A call has gone to all Christians to live a life of transformation that will further propagate the good news of Jesus Christ to people around them.

The Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo, made the call while administering the Sacrament of Confirmation to 123 faithful of St. Mary Catholic Church, Ayetoro, at St. Martin of Pores Catholic Church, Igbogila; an outstation of the parish. He said that as Christ followers, our lifestyles should preach about Jesus Christ to other people everywhere.

According to him, all Christians should tow the path of salvation, by obeying God’s commandments, adding that they should think of heaven in all they do.

He cautioned Christians to shun frivolities of life, stressing that this will prevent them from encountering Jesus in truth and in faith.

While admonishing the faithful to dedicate their lives to the service of God, Bishop Odetoyinbo said that any service rendered in the church should be geared towards the salvation of our souls.

He challenged both the newly confirmed faithful and other faithful of the parish to continue to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ through their actions, so that the good news of Jesus Christ will touch all nooks and crannies of the parish.

Speaking on the spiritual importance of choosing a saint name for baptism and Confirmation in the Catholic Church, the Chief Shepherd of Abeokuta Diocese said, taking a saint name is a sign of growth in Christ and the Catholic faith.

“Your Confirmation name should reflect the new role you will undertake as a more mature Catholic. You should seek for the intercession of your patron saint for guidance at all times”.

He said, with the Sacrament of Confirmation, they had been admitted into the spiritual family of the Church, urging them to research and know about their patron saints and follow their footsteps in their earthly journey towards salvation.

He reminded the faithful of the new policy in the diocese that there is no sacrament of matrimony for non-confirmed faithful from January 2021.

The Bishop commended the Catholic community of Igbogila for undertaking the construction of the priest residence, and urged them not to be discouraged by the economic condition of the country.

A council member of the Church of St. Martin of Pores Catholic Church, Igbogila, Pa. Michael Bamidele Ojekunle, on behalf of the priests, religious and faithful of the parish appreciated the Bishop for the visit and prayed for God’s protection and wisdom for the Chief Shepherd.
